From the time we are a small child, to the time we near death’s door, we all experience suffering. Some more than others. Heartbreak, loss of a job, death of loved one, a broken marriage, and the list goes on and on. There is no escaping suffering while we tarry for Jesus return.
As a child, a skinned knee or a broken toy may be all that we remember of suffering. As an adult, suffering can cause us to lose our focus, and for some, redefine who we are. No doubt, a person who suffers, is a changed person.
Scripture says, “The righteous person may have many troubles, but the Lord delivers him from them all.” (Psalm 34:19) NIV. You see, when we are suffering, we are very much in need of a Savior. It is encouraging to know that our suffering can never separate us from the love of God that we have in Christ Jesus!
Jesus knew suffering on a level that many of us will never have to experience. He understands our pain, our grief, and our sorrows…for He bore them all at the cross of Calvary. When we allow His suffering to take the place of ours, we can then begin to experience the meaning of true joy. So when troubles come our way, let us consider it an opportunity for joy to arise and for the enemy to be defeated!
