Have you heard the term—unequally yoked? It means that a man and woman in marriage have different values, different beliefs and different purposes.
Scripture warns us not to be intimately involved with unbelievers.
Paul addressed this issue by saying, “Be not unequally yoked with unbelievers: for what fellowship have righteousness and iniquity? or what communion hath light with darkness?” ASV (2 Cor. 6:14)
Why start a relationship with someone who hasn’t the foggiest idea what your values are? It is like a “tug of war”; the wife on one end and her husband on the other. The two will never come into full agreement and eventually the strongman will win. In the process there will be much pain, much dragging, much bracing and then the eventual slide over enemy lines. Why? Because light cannot compromise with darkness.
