We have all met them…hard hearted people, stubborn or non-feeling in their actions. Yes, it’s a cruel world in which we live. Perhaps many of us were like that before we met Jesus.
Is there hope for one who has a heart of stone? In Ezekiel we read:
“And I will give them one heart, and put a new spirit within them. And I will take the heart of stone out of their flesh and give them a heart of flesh,” Ezekiel 11:19 NASB.
Romans equates a heart of stone to an unrepentant heart. (Romans 2:5). It is impossible to be Christ-like without repentance. I suppose the most common characteristic when others describe me is that of “joy.” Real joy comes from encountering immense sorrow, and that my friend is a picture of my life in a nutshell. I have learned to remain in that secret place of tender-mercies. I have also discovered that nothing is truer than knowing that “A cheerful heart is good medicine, but a crushed spirit dries up the bones” Prov. 17:22.
