I heard of a women last week who refused to attend worship unless there was a children’s church program. I can’t even remember such a luxury as I was raising four children. Truth is, unless we cater to this generation and give to them all that they expect in a church, whether it be children’s church, rock music, big screens, comfy seating, etc., they will refuse to fellowship with believers.
I find nothing in the New Testament Church that was convenient for them to practice their faith. They met in crowded homes without air conditioning or common areas, while sometimes walking several miles to the meeting. They faced public humility, scourging or death, and constant reproach from the Pharisees. Jesus went the extra mile when he said, "If anyone wishes to come after Me, he must deny himself, and take up his cross and follow Me.” Matt. 16:24 NASB
Imagine having to deny our own wants and wishes to follow Jesus. There’s nothing convenient about that. Why? Because we are selfish and self-centered. Until we become Christ-centered, we will never comprehend the meaning of taking up our cross and following Him.
