So, after church, my hubby and I went out with friends for lunch. When we arrived a young man sat us in a corner of the restaurant. Now, it is nothing uncommon for me (Jane) to ask our waitress or waiter if there is something that we can pray for them about, while we ask a blessing on our meal. The conversation went something like this:
Me: Thanks for bringing our food, may I ask your name?
Waiter: Sure. It’s Ramon. (Ramon appears to be in his 20’s)
Me: Ramon? I love to pray for our waiters or waitresses, and wonder if there is anything that I can pray for you about today, while we pray over our food?
Ramon: (Moving over into the corner where I sat) He looked me in the eye and said, “There sure is. My grandma just had back surgery and she is not doing well at all. (He gave the details that were similar to my own back surgery of recent days). Could you please pray for her as she is in so much pain and cannot sit up straight?"
Me: We would love to do that. (Ramon decides to stay at table) I pray.
Ramon: (After prayer, teary-eyed) Thank you so much! Did you say you have had the same surgery?
Me: Yes, it is no accident that you wanted me to pray for her today. Do you believe that?
Ramon: (Shaking his head in agreement) Yes! I feel better. (He thanks me and leaves)
(About 20 minutes later Ramon returns to the corner of the restaurant and comes and stands in my corner by the table with this goofy, but sweet grin on his face.)
Me: Can I do something else for you Ramon? ( I smile)
Ramon: I don’t know why I am here! It just feels so good here, I want to be in the corner with you.
Me: (I smiled, and placed my hand on the young man’s shoulder and shared with him about how the Holy Spirit works like that and more….) I am going to keep believing that your grandma is fine. We will come back and check on you again soon. (Ramon leaves and is just filled with delight)
MORAL OF THE STORY: When we shine our Light for Jesus, people WANT to be in our corner!
Now YOUR turn….Get out there and SHINE!!!
"In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven." (Matthew 5:16)
