“…though if I should wish to boast, I would not be a fool, for I would be speaking the truth; but I refrain from it, so that no one may think more of me than he sees in me or hears from me.” (2 Cor. 12:6)
Wow!! Lately, life has been somewhat of a roller coaster for me. Don’t get me wrong…I am so totally blessed to be able to follow my dreams and the heart of God. His love for me has taken me to places I could never realize, and His loving compassion has stayed with me through the difficult times of life. Some look at my life and sense “I have it made,” but nothing could be farther from the truth.
Life has thrown me several unexpected challenges as of late, and due to a car accident in June, I am now scheduled for surgery in Dallas, Texas in just thirteen days. My old spine just couldn’t defend itself against the kind of hit(s) that we encountered. In the midst of continued ministry, it has been so refreshing to sense the hand of Lord upon me ----taking me through this season of my life and allowing me yet to pour His love into others. Take note, that especially during conferences or preaching, I have witnessed a strong anointing upon me, and unless you know me in an up close and personal way, you would never suspect that I am suffering from an excruciating back issue. The anointing is STRONG my friends, and it is the same SPIRIT anointing that takes us through the unexpected turns and twists that come our way.
I have met others, who regardless of their faith, are incapable of pushing on in the midst of pain or suffering of any kind. I am SO DIFFERENT from that, and I thank God that He has placed within me a resilient spirit to continue on in His work, regardless of what my body is dictating to me. That same spirit has been with me since my youth, through bullying as a child, through abuse as an adult, and through trials unspeakable! You see, I get up in the morning, and sometimes it feels like my back has stayed in bed. I turn, command my back to move, and it moves. Friends, we must take authority over our bodies, our lives and the perils that will always come our way, and pass.
Since when does it say that when sorrow, pain, anguish, disappointment or depression comes into our lives that we can stop fighting the good fight? The Bible never states such foolishness. The problem is that regardless of what we face, Christ is always with us. We never face these challenges alone. For this truth, I am so deeply grateful.
Perhaps, in this season of life, you too have experienced some unexpected pain, trials or disappointments that have caused you to step aside, lay down your calling, or tell God you will do whatever it is He has asked of you--- later. My goodness, the blessings one misses out on because they allow an obstacle to hold them back is ludicrous. I see it over and again, not just in the world, but in the Body of Christ. When will we realize that living the Christian life means obedience above all other things? We must lay down our selfish desires, dreams and hopes, and pick up the cross and follow Jesus. When we do, we will find new dreams and hopes that line up to His perfect will, and that will carry us through any storm that might come our way.
I think of John as I remember the passage, "I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in Me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from Me you can do nothing.” (John 1:5)
Let us never be found disconnected from the Vine. Without Christ, I can do nothing, and of this I am very cognizant! It is in those quiet moments of surrender, on my knees in thanks, that I ask Him to go before me every time I accept a new invitation to minister, every day as the sun is rising, every unexpected moment while in travel, and as I meet people. You see, I, more than anyone realize how very insignificance my life would be without the Lord in it. He continues to be my best friend, guide, counselor and warrior King as we move forward, advancing His kingdom. I am most confident of this that I am never alone.
I guess what I am trying to say is this; Let us not allow outside circumstances to dictate our obedience to Christ!
