What is stealing your peace? Every person has an opportunity to lay aside the tranquil moments of peace and take up their sorrow, their pain, their turmoil, and unrest. In doing so, they place it on their shoulders as a burden to carry around day and night. Sounds like fun—huh? Not. But this is what I see people doing daily, and if I am not careful, I can do the very same thing when troubles come my way.
Why are so many of us adamant about becoming burden-bearers? Jesus said, ‘My yoke is easy, and my burden is light.” Oh, how I wish that we could all enter into that sweet peace that Jesus promises when He says,
"Peace I leave with you; My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Do not let your heart be troubled, nor let it be fearful.” (John 14:27) NASB
In reality, the everyday life is filled with opportunities to relinquish our peace or to hold on to it. Jesus is the Prince of Peace! Do we dare say that He is not capable of keeping us living in peace when we need it the most?
I will be more than frank with you. It is going on five years in our neighborhood where the state of peace is constantly being tested. One neighbor, three blocks away plays his music so loud that our windows rattle. Recently, another neighbor, who moved closer is doing the same thing. I will also admit, that their actions have stolen my peace from time to time as they continue to bully others with their loud bass sounding antics. I realize it is the enemy doing what he can to steal my joy and my peace. It has gotten so bad that I have contemplated moving out of the neighborhood, but I sensed the Lord say, “Don’t let them run you out, take authority!” Last night my hubby and I prayed and took authority in Jesus Name over the matter, and instantly the music shut down.
Now I realize many of you reading this have far greater peace stealers than someone playing loud music. Maybe you are encountering terminal illness, the loss of a loved one, a divorce or even worse. Sometimes when things happen to us, we easily fall into the traps set by Satan to steal our peace. If we think for one moment that peace will abound without contention, we are sorely mistaken. We are in a battle my friends, and if we have been in denial regarding spiritual warfare-battle, we will continually be defeated and robbed of our peace.
Jesus said, “Behold, I have given you authority to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing shall hurt you.” (Luke 10:19) ESV
Did you see that? We have the power over all the power of the enemy! We can say this boldly, because we know “Greater is He that is in me than he that is in the world!”(1 John 4:4)
When a soldier is in combat, he doesn’t just take back an area in battle then sit and rest and never have to keep fighting for it. That would be ludicrous! The enemy is a conniver, a liar, and a constant divider. He will remain persistent in tormenting believers, and thus we must “Guard our hearts” daily, hourly, and minute by minute.
Don’t let the enemy fool you into believing that he has given up and that he will not try and come back and steal your peace, joy, health or wealth. He is a robber of all good things, but our Heavenly Father is a GIVER of all GOOD THINGS! So what shall we do as a child of the King when the enemy comes at us? Pray, remain steadfast and at all times, “SHAKE IT OFF SAINTS! For the Lord thy God is with Thee!”
