<![CDATA[ www.janemorin.com - Living In God's Peace and Promises]]>Tue, 21 May 2013 05:04:23 -0600Weebly<![CDATA[Living in the Past Reveals a Lack of Faith]]>Mon, 20 May 2013 10:36:41 GMThttp://www.janemorin.com/5/post/2013/05/living-in-the-past-reveals-a-lack-of-faith.html
This week has been a bit challenging as I have been trying to bring more balance into my life. I have seen others struggling to achieve their goals and sadly, name-dropping, so as to try to win over others due to their past accomplishments.

When we rely so much on what God did in the past, without expecting Him to do extraordinary things today and in the future, we are living in vain. I have had the privilege and honor to work with many well-known evangelists, preachers and teachers throughout the years, including kings of distant lands. I do not place one ounce of trust in the favor that I have received, but I press forward, knowing that the ONLY NAME that is above all names is the NAME that I want to be associated with. That NAME is Jesus known as YYAHWEH. This is why you will not find me bragging about my association with others, as I realize that if I am depending on past associations to be the driving force for recognition, I am already what you might call a “loser.”

In today’s world, where climbing the social ladder includes rubbing elbows with well-recognized professionals in their fields; I give little credence to the result. It does not hurt to have a team of well-known individuals in your corner, but when I allow their influence on me to impact others, that is where this woman draws the line.

The children of Israel experienced a lack of faith when they kept thinking of what God did for them in Egypt by allowing the exodus, but yet had little hope on the day to day journey to the Promised Land. In fact, they longed for the good old days of bondage because they could not learn to rely on God daily for what He was doing for them in the desert. It is advantageous to remember the times when God moved in your life, but if that is what LIFE is to you,
the blessings of today have passed you right on by. Why? Because God has a blessing for you today! Are you missing it as you dream about the good old days? Memories of God moving in the past are good, but if that is what your driving force is to succeed, you’re off track. God is constantly doing a NEW THING!

Isaiah 43: 19 reads: "Behold, I will do something new, Now it will spring forth; Will you not be aware of it? I will even make a roadway in the wilderness, Rivers in the desert.

Why is it necessary to hear from God today? This is because God always moves in the relevant, in revelation, and in the “NOW” of your life. Successful believers have grasped the importance of coming to God daily with expectancy. I wake up daily, pray over my body and expect God to move mountains to fulfill His will in my life. This is because I realize, in the end, if I refuse to credit God, it will ultimately lead to my demise. If I close my ears to His voice today, but ponder on what He did for me yesterday, my life will be futile.

This is how much I DEPEND on my relationship with God daily. It is not religion; it is this relationship that I am passionate about. I am also more passionate about my God relationship than the relationships of folks around me. People will let us down, but God will NEVER let us down. I have proven Him time and time again, and He continues to remain faithful!

So, let’s talk about today. What is God doing TODAY in your life? If you cannot answer that, you might be relying on religion, and not relationship. Stop living in the past, dear ones! God has so much more for you today and tomorrow. We must learn to walk in the NOW, where God is moving, if we are ever going to succeed as believers in every area of our life!

<![CDATA[What Happens When We Forget?]]>Mon, 13 May 2013 13:02:39 GMThttp://www.janemorin.com/5/post/2013/05/what-happens-when-we-forget.html
You may see the title of this devotional and immediately think Alzheimer’s, but nothing could be further from what I am getting ready to share. God, because of His immense love for us, has provided a means and a plan for redemption, simply because we were incapable. Generations of men and women tried to redeem themselves, but found their acts of worship futile. God made it easy, but man compounded the law by adding new laws consistently.

What does this have to do with forgetting? In Jeremiah 2:32 it reads, “Does a virgin forget her ornaments or a bride her wedding attire? Yet My people have forgotten Me, days without number.”

Let’s get something straight. To forget something, you must have known it at first. This means that God’s people knew Him intimately, but chose to forget or ignore His precepts. In fact, they forgot Him so regularly that the days could not be counted.

How many times have we prayed to God for help through a problem, and when we began to see our deliverance, we all but forgot WHO had brought us through? In Chapter 3 of Jeremiah, God emphasizes that His people are much like the harlots of the land. This means they once were devoted to Him, but now find their pleasure in other gods, in other things --- besides God. What becomes of them? Not anything much different than what is becoming of mankind today. In verse three, God announces the curse that is derived by their forgetfulness: “Therefore the showers have been withheld, and there has been no spring rain. Yet you had a harlot’s forehead, and you refused to be ashamed.”

Today, our world is not much different than thousands of years ago, when sin refuses to shame our culture and our country. I actually am embarrassed to see what evil has become acceptable among society in our country while Godly attributes are becoming more unacceptable. Pure evil is having its way, and why? Simply put: because we have forgotten the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. Our nation has spoken louder than ever, committed heinous acts and
gone our own way. What will be our downfall? As we look at verse six, we see what the Lord said to King Josiah, “Have you seen what faithless Israel did?” Now as leaders of the faith, we are hearing from God, “Have you seen what faithless America did?”

Some may think it is too late for America, but I refuse to accept that. I believe if we turn back to God, He can and will bless our land once again, but we must remember Him. The forgetfulness mentioned here is unlike Alzheimer’s, when a person loses their memory through disease. However, as mentioned above, we must make the right choice, not to choose to forget Him, but choose to include Him in our daily affairs. That means that we must stop pretending that we are a Christian, and start living in His precepts. It also means that we must stop catering to our own fleshly desires, but continually seek His face. Call me an optimist, but I take God at His word in 2 Chronicles when he declares “If my people, who are called by My name, shall humble themselves and pray, and seek My face and turn from their wicked way, then will I hear from heaven, forgive their sin and heal their land.”

Let us ne’er forget our God in these last days. Let us pray---let us intercede like never before, and let us turn our face towards heaven and ask for forgiveness for our forgetfulness.

<![CDATA[Secret Agent Christian --- Really?]]>Mon, 06 May 2013 13:41:14 GMThttp://www.janemorin.com/5/post/2013/05/secret-agent-christian-really.html
Have you ever met someone who professes to be a believer, but their life appears to blend into the background of this world? In fact, they are participating in things that are against God’s Word.

Jesus warned, "Not everyone who says to me, 'Lord, Lord,' will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only the one who DOES the will of my Father who is in heaven. (Matthew 7:21)

In Matthew 5: 13-16, Jesus essentially says that we are salt and light and states that when salt loses it saltiness, it is no longer good for anything. On the other hand, He continues to say that a light hidden under a bushel (or hidden) is useless.

USELESS! Did you notice that? The last thing I want God to say to me when I see Him is that my life was useless.

In a world where darkness seems to be closing in, those who are true believers (doers of the
Word) need to let their light shine all the more. As we do, darkness cannot contend with light.

In a world that savors gossip, indecent talk, quarreling, lying, rude and brash behavior, cheating, hate and murder, we are called to be
the SALT. People are constantly looking for something to satisfy their palates, but we are to be an example of the salt of Christ so that He can satisfy their souls.

As a believer, our spiritual life should remain seamless from the temple to the town, from the church to the city, from worship to the world. Our faith should seamlessly transition from home, church, work, and the marketplace.

I’ve never met one productive secret agent Christian in my life. If you call yourself a believer, but focus on the things that matter to you more than what matters as a whole, you may very well be a secret agent Christian. That one trait is key in a secret agent’s life. The ME factor is accented, while others remain irrelevant unless they are used as pawns or a ladder to the secret agent’s success.

In John 3:30, the true believer finally understands the truth: "He must increase, but I must decrease.” The “He” that he is talking about is JESUS.

Have we given God permission to permeate all the areas of our life, or are we holding on to secret sin or ambitions, that in the end will become our downfall?

Let us run the race of faith that will ultimate end in gaining the prize that Paul talks about in scripture. To be doers of the Word, or to run the race successfully, our lives must become seamless so that those around us can experience the salt and light of God’s love for them.

<![CDATA[WHAT THE WORLD NEEDS NOW, IS LOVE SWEET LOVE]]>Mon, 29 Apr 2013 13:45:32 GMThttp://www.janemorin.com/5/post/2013/04/what-the-world-needs-now-is-love-sweet-love.html
Okay, I know I’m dating myself when I title a devotional after an old 60’s song…but I can’t think of anything this world needs more right now. In the middle of earth's judgmental mania games, we often forget to stop, accept others and realize we all have faults.

A few months ago, we celebrated Valentine’s Day. We often find ourselves shopping for a special gift for that significant other to express our love and devotion. When it comes to expressing to others outside that realm, we often fall way short. By the way, buying gifts isn't the only way we can show love towards others. Often, a gift will give us a temporary feeling of acceptance and love. When someone offers us their time, or takes time to say “I love you,” that often means more to me than a gift. I’m not saying I don’t like gifts, but when I think of all the gifts my husband has given me, compared to his genuine expression of love given me through the years, there is no comparison.

What good would it be had he repeatedly given me gift after gift, but never had any time to spend with me - not to mention, telling me how important I am to him? When it comes to other relationships, we can understand the benefit of giving of ourselves in time. When we take a moment out of our busy schedules to send a card, or make a call to someone who needs a touch that day, we have learned the meaning of love. By the way, they are not the only one benefiting. By expressing love and or mercy to others, we become more Christ-like because He is love. Allowing the channels of the Holy Spirit to move freely in us, accepting others, and not being critical helps us to guard our hearts against being judgmental.

When was the last time you genuinely showed love to a stranger? The world’s tainted view of love and God’s definition is two different things. We are commanded to love our neighbor. Who is our neighbor? I am glad you asked!

Our neighbor is anyone we come in contact with. In Scripture, we read about “the road to Jericho,” as it is a perfect example of what is expected of a neighbor. We read in the book of Luke about a man who was robbed, beaten and left for dead. Several people just passed him by on the road to Jericho. However, one man picked him up, took him to a hotel and paid all his medical bills, so that he was taken care of until he recovered fully.

As Jesus was explaining to one of his disciples, he continued on saying, "Which of these three do you think proved to be a neighbor to the man who fell into the robbers' hands?" And he said, "The one who showed mercy toward him." Then Jesus said to him, "Go and do the same." Luke 10: 36-37

There's an old saying that I enjoy about the red lettering in the Bible. You see, when you read the words in red, they are the words that Jesus Himself spoke. I like to agree with the saying that says, “Read the red and pray for the power!

If red stands for love (as tradition holds), we sure could learn to show a little more “red” at times in our lives. In the coming week and through the year, may it remind us that red is also the color of the ultimate sacrifice of love that was given to us through the death of Christ and the shedding of innocent blood. May we learn to love others as unconditionally as God loves us!

<![CDATA[Have You Been Inquiring About Your Horror-scope?]]>Mon, 22 Apr 2013 12:29:32 GMThttp://www.janemorin.com/5/post/2013/04/have-you-been-inquiring-about-your-horror-scope.html
In Galatians 5:19-20, Paul writes, “The acts of the sinful nature are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity and debauchery; idolatry and witchcraft.”

I have friends who still read their horoscopes, or what I call horror-scopes daily. I have other friends who think fortune cookie messages were ordained from God--- just for them. Is there anything wrong with putting our trust in these mediums?

What are your thoughts about it? Well, you know I will tell you mine. No, better yet, I will tell you what God has to say about it. Putting our trust in such things is considered a sin. Why? For one---as a believer we are commanded to place our trust in God.

God’s Word warns against the false predictions of astrology (Jeremiah 10:2; 27:9-10; Daniel 2:1-4; 4:7; 5:7-9) and repeatedly condemns the associated practice of worshipping the sun, moon and stars (or “deities or demons associated with them”) (Deuteronomy 4:19; 17:2-5; 2 Kings 21:3, 5; Zephaniah 1:5; Job 31:26-28; Jeremiah 8:1-2).

I can hear some of you now: “Oh come on Jane---we’re just having fun!” Well, those without a conscious consider it fun, but for those who are under the Lordship of Christ, we know that it is a serious matter to consult in such affairs such as mediums, fortunes, horror-scopes and such. When we allow these things to be a part of our life, we open the door for other demonic influence, and according to Acts 16:14-18, soothsaying is equivalent to witchcraft.

Did you know when you dabble in these forms of play or fun that you are dabbling in witchcraft? For those who seek contact with spirits using the occult, there will be unimaginable and certain consequences in the form of sickness, misery, insanity, marital upheaval and many other problems – sometimes even an early death. They can invade not only your life, but the lives of those who are related to you or are under your covering and authority.
Okay, there is the word I was looking for: Authority. Have you lost your authority in Christ? Have you laid it down somewhere, and allowed the enemy to reign in areas of your life – even if it is unknowingly? It is no surprise. It happens to all of us. Sometimes we dethrone the Lord of our heart when we relinquish our authority to fear, intimidation, or lack of knowledge. We seek out other mediums for answers to the tough questions in our life, instead of seeking God’s face. The Psalmist understood the blessings for those who seek after God: Psalm 119: 1-2 says, “How blessed are those whose way is blameless, Who walk in the law of the LORD. How blessed are those who observe His testimonies, who seek Him with all their heart.

If you are guilty of laying down your God-given authority and picking up your horror-scope, reading your fortune or inquiring of a palm reader or medium to guide you, you are in the danger zone! Many believers know the risks taken when entering into these kind of games, but many do not, as the church is not teaching it. Perhaps the church is afraid that if they mention such a thing, they will be considered a “kill-joy” and immature believers will leave the assembly. If you have been involved with these games and other things such as Ouija boards and such, you need to renounce your involvement in them and relinquish their control over you.

Let’s pick up our authority and anointing, my friends. We have allowed the world to trample it, disregard it or make fun of it. However, in the end, we will be the ones coming back with Christ to rule and to rein, as we have learned to put our HOPE where it belongs---in Christ!

1 Peter 3:15
“But in your hearts set apart Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have…”

<![CDATA[Are You Still Hanging On to Clutter?]]>Mon, 15 Apr 2013 10:13:18 GMThttp://www.janemorin.com/5/post/2013/04/are-you-still-hanging-on-to-clutter.html
It is no great surprise that many of us hang on to things much longer than we should. We collect items, place them in storage, or allow them to pile up around us as a sense of security. Unneeded clutter not only becomes an obstacle physically, but spiritually, as well. We adhere to the well-known saying, “Oh, but I will need that someday!”

Is there a balance between hoarding and saving for future use? In the days when God brought His people out of Egypt, He provided them with manna. What is manna? Exactly! The Hebrew explanation for manna is -- what is it? Actually, manna was similar to a seed that had qualities like coriander. They would collect it, grind it up and make bread out of it. The people were commanded to go out and gather manna five days a week, just enough for that day. But on the sixth day, they were commanded to collect for a two day supply, as no manna was given on the Sabbath. (Exodus 16:23-26) Do you remember what happened if someone collected too much during the week, and tried to save it for the next day? That’s right! It would spoil and become useless.

Now, let’s think about this more in depth and how this affects us today. Keep in mind, that after forty years, after the children of Israel were able to enter the land of milk and honey, the manna ceased. This is because they were not in need of it, as God had given them everything there in that great land to survive.

Why is it that we hold our possessions so near and dear to us? Growing up, I had very little that I could call my own. I had some times in my adulthood that were like that, too. Now, in my fifties, I can see how I have accumulated a few unnecessary things in my life physically and spiritually. Yesterday, I started cleaning out, and getting rid of it. This week, I also have had a few of my ministry volunteers step up and take some of the responsibility for the ministry upon themselves, freeing me up to move forward with God in a new direction for us.

Whether we hold on to physical things, or intangible items or responsibilities, we are basically saying that we cannot trust God for our daily bread. It is wise to prepare for the future, but if we do this in a manner that affects our present day life negatively, then we have failed.

I would venture to say that many of my readers have today’s needs met, as well as tomorrow’s. Thus, it may not even cross their minds to walk in the faith that is required to trust God daily - as this Scripture states, “Give us this day, our daily bread….

Some people misjudge others who depend on God for their daily needs as being poor and constantly in need. Oh no! It is quite the opposite, my friend. It is a delight to see how God’s provision is renewed for us daily and how He cares for us as only a loving Father can. You may think you have made it this far in life all by the sweat of your own brow. Nothing could be farther from the truth. If it were not for the air in your lungs, a God-given gift, you would cease to exist altogether. Proverbs says, “A man’s mind plans his way, but the Lord directs his steps.” I can recall many times where God has led me to the right place at just the right time in my life. That comes from trusting Him daily, not only for my daily bread, but in every area of life. There are no coincidences in the life of a believer. God is leading and guiding, even if you do not recognize the fact.

What are you holding on to today that is preventing you from experiencing the blessings of tomorrow? If you are like me, you can see those things quite clearly. So, if you will excuse me, I am going to go finish removing some more clutter, so that I do not miss out on what God has in store for my future. I hope you will join me!

<![CDATA[HONOR AND REAP A LONG LIFE]]>Mon, 08 Apr 2013 13:08:47 GMThttp://www.janemorin.com/5/post/2013/04/honor-and-reap-a-long-life.html
Picture
Jane pictured with her parents in 1974
The fifth commandment is quite clear about how children should respond to their parents. It even states a promise, unlike the other commandments. "Honor your father and your mother, that your days may be long in the land which The Lord your God gives you." (Exodus 20:12)

Today, we live in a culture that blames and bashes parents for all the problems that we experience. The root of this behavior is burrowed deep into the heart of unforgiveness. Children who distance themselves from their parents have yet to deal with this enemy.

No parent is perfect, and I am not going to argue that my parenting is better than yours. Nor am I going to blame my parents who raised me in a dysfunctional home as the reason why that I carried issues with me when I finally left it. In fact, I was able to honor both my mother and my father before they died.

I was on the outs with my mother when I was fifteen, but three weeks before she committed suicide, God allowed us to reconcile and I began to honor her in knowing that she did what she knew to do when it came to parenting me and my siblings. Was it perfect? No. Did she love me? This is something that I know without a doubt.

It took decades later for me to be reconciled to my father. You see, many years went by where I blamed my father for his controlling and abusive behavior that wrecked our family. I had forgiven him in my early twenties, but I had never put feet to that until I was in my forties.

My dad had lost his mate (Lois), when I received a call from my brother who needed me to come back home and help. Mind you, I lived out of state and had lived independently from my dad for decades. He was in his early 70’s. What few times that we had gotten together for whatever occasions were brief and kept limited due to my inability to be around him for very long. His lifestyle just wasn’t one that I could contend with.

After my husband Gaetan encouraged me to go, I made the decision to spend a week with my dad and help him get his house in order. Lois had done the best she knew how for him, and I can add one good thing about her too. When no one else would love him, she did.

My submission to go on the trip required one caveat; that he would smoke only in his chair with an air filter right next to him as I am allergic to cigarette smoke. Mind you, before my mother committed suicide, she shot my dad two times in the back. He suffered a stroke but lived through the ordeal. It left him handicapped.

While I was there, my dad asked me if I could help him with his toenails. As I took his boots off, a most unpleasant surprise awaited. His toenails were green and curled under, hurting him.

I went to get a pan of hot water and asked him to put his feet in it. I added something to kill the bacteria and then knelt down in front of him, and got to work. I remember commenting to my dad, who claimed to be an atheist, “It’s a good thing that God says to love one another dad, or I would not be doing this.”

He sat in silence, and when the arduous task was completed he was most grateful. The week went on with me cleaning the house from top to bottom, and during the process, cleaning him up too. I insisted he took daily baths, and daily changed into clean clothes. There was much resistance at first, but as the crusty exterior wore away daily, he began to see a man emerge that he had not seen in decades. As I gave him chores to do, like hang the laundry or vacuum, his spirit began to change. I knew he could do these things, but I suppose sitting and smoking and drinking were things he did to keep occupied. Once I got him doing other things, he all but quit the other habits during my visit.

After cooking my first meal there that week, I said a prayer of thanks which brought opposition. By the end of the week, he reached out his hand to take mine and said a very childlike prayer of thanks for the food.

To this day, I am so glad that I had that time with my dad. I discovered that deep inside of all that bitterness and resentment pent up inside of me for decades, that I had a love for him and that he loved me too. I realized that he had done the best that he could with what he knew.

So, if you are a child rather distanced from your parents, make an effort to get it right. I would have certainly regretted his death two years later had I not taken the time to get to know him. I suggest that you do something to honor your parents, and don’t wait until Mother’s or Father’s Day. Do it now, as one never knows what the season holds. You see, from one parent to another, none of us has the perfect mom or dad. We may idolize them and even think differently, but in reality, we are all poor, weak, and naked in need of a redeeming God to help us. Our Abba Father sets forth an example that we can strive to meet.

As a grandmother, with grandchildren all over the states, it is difficult to have an intimate relationship as I desire with all of my grandchildren. I am still trying to figure out how to do that, but my primary responsibility is to be the mom God sent me to be to my children. It can be a struggle at times, but one must always remember, a parent’s love is constant, and that love never changes.

<![CDATA[THE SLEEPING GIANT]]>Mon, 01 Apr 2013 12:14:30 GMThttp://www.janemorin.com/5/post/2013/04/the-sleeping-giant.html
Whoa! The enemy is extremely deceptive. He is trying to tip-toe around believer’s lives as he is seeking any area that is not committed to Christ so that he can invade, persuade and devastate it. Last week, I spoke about how the enemy, Satan himself, comes to steal your destiny. Now, let us look at the broader picture.

The CHURCH, which is unaware of Satan’s maneuvers, is often duped into following a man, following a trend, or following any other idol that appears holy. Yes, idol, because if we are following anyone but Jesus, anything but Jesus, we are nothing other than an idol worshipper.

Out of the first two commandments that God gives us in Exodus 20, He is describing exactly what an idol is. The first one is:

You shall have no other gods before me. (Exodus 20:3)

…and then, to make sure that men knew what God was saying, He gives us a schooling in idol worship as seen in verses 4-6.

You shall not make for yourself an image in the form of anything in heaven above or on the earth beneath or in the waters below. You shall not bow down to them or worship them; for I, the Lord your God, am a jealous God, punishing the children for the sin of the parents to the third and fourth generation of those who hate me, but showing love to a thousand generations of those who love me and keep my commandments."

The CHURCH, who is often called the bride, the woman, or God’s beloved throughout scripture, has been invaded because of her innocence and taken captive by the enemy, so as to render her useless, or so it may seem. In no other time in history have we seen the CHURCH running from persecution as it is today in America. Instead of standing up for biblical morals, we are conceding daily to our own immoral demise.

Do not be alarmed dear friends. The highly PUBLIC CHURCH appears to be one that is fully compromised by preaching words that tickle ears. However, the warrior-bride CHURCH, known as the SLEEPING GIANT is beginning to stir! The activity going on behind the scene is certainly what is making Satan try all the harder, in his panicked mode, to steal the truth from God’s people. A watered down gospel, a worldwide acceptance of all religions, and heresy being preached in God’s Name, are just a few of his lowly tactics to outwit the BRIDE of CHRIST, if it were possible.
2 Thessalonians 2:9-10 states, “The coming of the lawless one is by the activity of Satan with all power and false signs and wonders, and with all wicked deception for those who are perishing, because they refused to love the truth and so be saved.”

Discernment is a much needed weapon in the arsenal of the CHURCH today. Discernment thwarts the deceptive tactics of the enemy. Every believer is capable of operating in discernment, but we must pray for it.

The SLEEPING GIANT is starting to roll over as birth pangs contribute to her lack of slumber. Her eyes are fixed on the author and finisher of her faith. She may be slightly reclined as of yet, not fully aware of her time to rise, but deep within her, there is stirring of anticipation for the GROOM’S arrival! She no longer is in deep sleep, but part of her is awakening with a lamp and battle cry and the other is awakening with a sword in hand. Together, they will render the enemy defenseless on that GREAT DAY! Meanwhile, she will begin to squelch the fires of hell that have been lit under the false prophets, teachers and compromisers of the WORD. This means that she remains sitting at the moment, but it won’t be long before she is standing, perfectly cleansed and adorned in white, completely spotless of every blemish, and ready for her wedding day.

Those who have placed other idols of the world before them, following false gods, selfish ambitions, loved money, loved self, loved the things that are an abomination, shall soon find themselves waiting in the darkest, darkness as the bride is whisked away! What will they be waiting for? This author cannot pen such unbearable words.

The CHURCH is waking up, and the GROOM (Jesus the CHRIST) is closer to coming today than He was yesterday. Are you ready? Have you laid your idols aside? It’s time to wipe the sleep from your eyes, sit up and listen straight to what God has to say. Those with ears shall hear what the Spirit saying.

<![CDATA[AVOID THE PITFALLS ROBBING YOUR DESTINY]]>Mon, 25 Mar 2013 01:56:12 GMThttp://www.janemorin.com/5/post/2013/03/-avoid-the-pitfalls-robbing-your-destiny.html
As a young believer back in the mid 70’s, I had not discovered the precise attitudes or attributes that were preventing me from having the peace that Jesus talked about so often in the gospels. I would sporadically have moments of complete peace, but they never lasted for a long time, as opportunities were often presented to me that would cause me to run like a dog with his tail tucked under.

Part of the problem was that I had an extremely intimidated side of me that had flourished well during childhood through abuse and a chaotic upbringing. I did
not like confrontation, and in every level of my life, I allowed people to run over me, so as to avoid it. This meant that I became a people pleaser, and thus, an easy target by those who thrived on meeting their emotional needs through their ability to control others.

Most people coming out of such a position as I did, would recognize the pitfalls, and find ways to avoid them in their lives. I believe I was around thirty-seven when I first began to catch a glimpse of the foe that continued to haunt me, and in actuality, it took me several more years before I was able to identify it and destroy it entirely in my life.

The painful part of stopping others from controlling you is the insecurity and intimidation you begin to experience when gaining freedom. Those who are abused stop growing emotionally until they are totally out of their abusive situation. Since I had been abused, as far back as I could remember, my maturity level emotionally was extremely childlike. As a grown woman, I looked under the bed for monsters and believed the boogie man was always waiting behind the door to get me. I had to sleep with a light on, and solicit opinions of others before I ever made any decisions, in hopes they would make it for me, and save me the turmoil.

At that time, I was well into my adulthood, a mother of three teenage boys and a daughter who was becoming a teenager soon, before I began to realize the grip that intimidation, control and insecurity had on me. It had cocooned its way around every part of my life, keeping me in chains, and eliminating any ambitions that life would offer. I would see the Light of Christ in glimpses through those years, but it was often snuffed out by the controlling people in my life. There is no other word for it but bondage. I had wrapped my wounds up for decades, but the real injuries were untouchable as they were deeply rooted in my soul and spirit. God used me to help others be set free, but I failed to recognize the issues in my own life that kept me powerless.

Why am I telling you this? Today, I can look back and see just how far Christ, the bondage breaker has brought me. Do I occasionally slip up and allow intimidation or insecurity to creep back into my life, convincing me that I am incapable of what God has called me to do? Let me say this: when God’s children have a calling on their lives that involves a destiny of greatness, you can bet that Satan will whisper daily to you about your failures, your foolishness, your insecurities and incapability’s. You can also expect him to offer detour routes, to get you off God’s plan for your life, making them look like answered prayers, when, in fact, they are taking you the opposite direction than God intended.

Guilty? Me too as I have done that more times than I hate to admit. This is why scripture says:

“Be still and know that I am God…” (Psalm 46:10a)

Once we have found our identity in Christ and tasted TRUE freedom, we can start serving in the Body of Christ, and find that peace that has evaded our lives become as an old friend that we can count on daily. No matter what trial, opposition, or trap the enemy has planned, we can stand firm in our destiny when we learn not to allow any room for him in our lives.

Have you succumbed to the destiny thief in your life? It’s time to tell him to go back to the dry places, in Jesus Name!

Jesus says, "I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world." (John 16:33)

<![CDATA[SMASHING YOUR OWN FINGER]]>Mon, 18 Mar 2013 13:43:26 GMThttp://www.janemorin.com/5/post/2013/03/smashing-your-own-finger.html
As a young girl, I was trying to learn how to use a hammer when nailing a few boards together while creating a project. Like most young children, mastering a hammer and a nail took much more effort than anticipated. While in the midst of creativity, I raised the hammer honing in on the nail-head only to slip and hit my thumb severely. To this day the pain is somewhat of a reminder on how careful I must be when using tools.

As I look back at the damage that hammer did in less than a second, I have acknowledged the reality of how we as a body of believers, being the very Body of Christ, haphazardly go about our day hurting the Body instantly by our words or deeds. Sadly, some don’t do it in a haphazard manner at all. I was working extraordinarily hard on my project when I induced pain upon myself. When we intentionally speak unkind words or go about serving others with false motives, we hurt others without realizing how we are hurting the Body of Christ.

For just as the body is one and has many members, and all the members of the body, though many, are one body, so it is with Christ. (1 Corinthians 12:12)

When we carelessly make remarks about others, or judge another believer by what we see, but not by what we know, we are guilty of hurting the body, or smashing our own finger. Why would anyone intentionally hurt their own body? For some, it is in complete ignorance; for most, it is a deliberate action, exhibiting a lack of self-control, and in which there is no excuse. As a follower of Christ, God has downloaded in us the fruit of the spirit:

“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law. (Galatians 5: 22-23)

Right off the top of this list, I see four kinds of fruit that will prevent us from sabotaging the Body of Christ and others, (kindness, goodness, gentleness and self-control). If you are a true believer, you possess all of these. You might need to dig beneath the crust of your attitude, to find them, but they are there.

Brothers and sisters, if you have wasted your time on devising a plan on how to hurt others with your words or deeds, and you can’t seem to control yourself when it comes to gossip or like actions, I would venture to say you are not of the Body of Christ. As a Christian, we have been given all the tools needed to live a holy and irreproachable life. Being unaware of it is no reason for such actions. The WORD of God is rich in examples, so dive in, and stop smashing your own finger!
